How it works
Accounts used to be a headache. Now they're handled.
A free 15-minute call to start
Tell us what's going on with your business and your deadlines. We'll ask a few questions and tell you honestly what you need.
A clear quote, agreed upfront
We put in writing exactly what we'll do and what it costs before any work starts. No surprise bills later.
Set up without the hassle
We collect what we need securely and, if you're switching, we contact your old accountant for the handover.
Then we stay on top of it
Deadlines, returns and the odd panicked question. Message us on WhatsApp and you'll get a straight answer.

Why QK exists
Accounting that doesn't make you feel lost.
I started QK after leaving a 9-to-5, because I kept meeting business owners who were paying an accountant and still didn't understand where they stood.
So we keep it simple. We listen first, tell you what you actually need, agree a fee upfront and then get on with it. If you message with a question, you'll get a straight answer.

Questions people ask us
Something else? Email [email protected].
What happens in the free consultation?
A short call to understand your business, what you need help with and any deadlines. You can ask questions and decide whether QK is the right fit. There is no obligation.
How much do your services cost?
We agree a fee before work starts, based on what you need. Ask about fixed monthly fees during your consultation.
Can I switch to QK from my current accountant?
Yes. Once you decide to switch, we contact your previous accountant for the information we need. This is a normal professional step and you do not need to manage it yourself.
Do I need to visit an office?
No. Consultations are arranged online or by phone, and documents are shared electronically.
What should I not send through the website form?
Please do not send your UTR, National Insurance number, date of birth, bank details or financial documents through the enquiry form. We will arrange a secure way to share those if you become a client.

Bookkeeping
Good bookkeeping makes everything else easier: tax returns, VAT, lending conversations and day-to-day decisions. We keep your records accurate and current so year end is not a scramble.
Who it helps
- Sole traders who would rather spend evenings on something other than receipts
- Limited companies that need records ready for VAT and year-end accounts
- Growing businesses that have outgrown a spreadsheet
What's included

- Bank reconciliation
- Tracking what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers
- Setting up or tidying cloud accounting software
- Catch-up work where records have fallen behind
The exact scope is agreed with you before work starts.
How it works
- We look at how you currently keep records and agree what needs doing.
- We connect to, or set up, your accounting software.
- Records are kept up to date on an agreed schedule.
- You get a clear picture of income, costs and what is outstanding.
What you'll need
- Access to your business bank account feeds or statements
- Sales invoices and purchase receipts
- Details of any software you already use
Sensitive details such as your UTR, National Insurance number or bank details are collected securely during onboarding, never through the website enquiry form.
Bookkeeping: common questions
Which accounting software do you work with?
We work with common cloud accounting packages, including QuickBooks. Tell us what you use now and we will say whether it suits your business.
My records are months behind. Can you still help?
Yes. Catch-up bookkeeping is common. We will look at what is missing and agree a plan to bring things up to date.

What you'll need
- Your VAT registration number, if you already have one
- Up-to-date bookkeeping records, or access so we can prepare them
- Details of any unusual sales or purchases in the period
Sensitive details such as your UTR, National Insurance number or bank details are collected securely during onboarding, never through the website enquiry form.
VAT returns: common questions
Do I have to be VAT registered?
Registration depends on your taxable turnover and how you trade. We will check your figures against the current HMRC threshold and explain the options, including voluntary registration.
What is Making Tax Digital for VAT?
HMRC requires VAT-registered businesses to keep digital records and file VAT returns using compatible software. We make sure your setup meets those rules.

Other services
Tax planning and compliance
We prepare and file the returns you are legally required to submit, and we help you plan so tax bills are expected rather than surprising. Planning means using the rules correctly, not taking risks with HMRC.

The exact scope is agreed with you before work starts.
How it works
- We talk through your income, business structure and plans.
- We agree which returns and planning work you need.
- We prepare the returns from your records and go through them with you.
- We file once you approve, and remind you what is due and when.
What you'll need
- Your Unique Taxpayer Reference, shared securely during onboarding (not through the website form)
- Business income and expense records
- Details of other income, such as employment, property or dividends
Sensitive details such as your UTR, National Insurance number or bank details are collected securely during onboarding, never through the website enquiry form.
Tax planning: common questions
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
For online returns, the usual deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year on 5 April. Earlier is better: it gives you time to plan for the payment.
Does Making Tax Digital for Income Tax affect me?
It is being introduced in stages for sole traders and landlords, based on qualifying income. We can check whether and when it applies to you and get your records ready.
Can you guarantee I will pay less tax?
No accountant can honestly promise that. We make sure you claim what you are entitled to and plan ahead where the rules allow.

Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
The Construction Industry Scheme has its own rules for contractors and subcontractors. Monthly returns, subcontractor verification and deductions all need to be right. We handle the paperwork so you can stay on site.
Who it helps
- Contractors who pay subcontractors in construction
- Subcontractors who have CIS deducted from their pay
- Construction businesses trading as sole traders or limited companies
What's included
- Registering for CIS as a contractor or subcontractor
- Verifying subcontractors with HMRC

- Deduction statements for subcontractors
- Reclaiming CIS deductions through Self Assessment or company payroll
The exact scope is agreed with you before work starts.
How it works
- We confirm whether you are a contractor, a subcontractor or both.
- We agree how you will send us payment details each month.
- We verify new subcontractors and prepare monthly returns.
- We make sure deductions are claimed back correctly at year end.
What you'll need
- Your CIS registration details, if registered
- Subcontractor details and payment records
- CIS deduction statements you have received
Sensitive details such as your UTR, National Insurance number or bank details are collected securely during onboarding, never through the website enquiry form.
CIS: common questions
When are monthly CIS returns due?
Contractors must submit a monthly return by the 19th of each month, covering the tax month that ended on the 5th. A nil return may be needed if you made no payments.
How much is deducted under CIS?
Registered subcontractors usually have 20% deducted, unregistered subcontractors 30%. Those with gross payment status have nothing deducted. Rates apply to labour, not materials.
Can I get CIS deductions back?
Deductions count towards your tax and National Insurance. Sole traders claim them through Self Assessment; limited companies offset them through payroll. Any refund depends on your overall position.

That's been the idea behind QK from day one, and it's still printed on the logo.

How QK started
QK Accounts was set up by Qais Khan, who left a 9-to-5 job to build a practice for the kind of clients bigger firms tend to rush: sole traders, small limited companies and people working in construction.
Most of them want the same few things. To stop worrying about HMRC deadlines. To understand what they owe and why. And to have someone who picks up the phone when a letter arrives.
That's what we try to be. We use cloud software, including QuickBooks, so your records stay up to date and easy to share, and we agree our fee before we start.

What happens after I send an enquiry?
We read your message and reply by email. If it makes sense, we'll suggest a short call to understand your situation.
How long is the free consultation?
Up to 15 minutes. It's a chance to explain what you need and ask questions. There's no obligation to go ahead.
What should I have ready for the consultation?
A rough idea of your turnover, how you trade (sole trader or limited company) and any deadlines or HMRC letters you're worried about. You don't need to send documents beforehand.
I'm switching from another accountant. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Once you decide to go ahead, we'll contact your previous accountant for the handover.
